Peninsula Co-op Community

Peninsula Co-op is very proud to contribute to the communities where we do business through our Community Support Program. Each year we donate a portion of the profits back to the community, in addition to the annual membership rebate. In the last year, our Community Support Program is proud to have given back over $370,000 to more than 200 local charities, organizations, youth groups, student awards and community projects. We were represented at over 50 community events which ranged from fundraisers to sporting events, children’s festivals and agricultural fairs.

June 2017

The parade, pancakes, music and games were all fantastic at this year’s Brentwood Bay Day at the start of June. Our volunteers had a great time handing out prizes and giving away free gas cards! It was great to see so many members there too!

For the third year in a row, we were the Presenting Sponsor of the Cedar Hill Ladies Field Day Golf Tournament in support of Victoria Hospice. As a part of our sponsorship, we donated $5,000.

The Victoria HarbourCats were ‘moving ahead,’ throughout their 2016 season, and we ‘gave back’ to the Victoria Youth Empowerment Society with a cheque for $585. For every HarbourCats home game stolen base throughout their season, we donated $15 to this wonderful organization. Well done HarbourCats.

Our staff teamed up to make this donation happen by selling “Free Gas for a Year” raffle tickets and baking cupcakes for our annual Cupcake Day in their own kitchens.

Dennis Schmidt was the lucky winner of our free gas raffle and our staff raised over $5,100 in the annual Co-op Cupcake Day!

September 2015

Recently, $40,000 went missing from an account belonging to Keating Elementary School’s Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). They money was to be used for new playground equipment scheduled to be installed this fall. Upon hearing this story, we decided there must be something we can do. “Playgrounds provide years of enjoyment and help students gain all of those important skills that are learned through play – sharing, risk taking, creativity and developing solid friendships,” said Mary Lynn Heron, Principal of Keating Elementary.

With this in mind, we decided to donate $30,000 - the cost of the new playground - to the Keating Elementary PAC. We believe in a healthy, thriving community. The children of Keating Elementary deserve no less, and we were tremendously proud to turn this unfortunate nightmare into a wonderful dream come true for the children and families of Keating Elementary.

August 2015

At Peninsula Co-op, we are proud to support the communities where we do business. Our recent $10,000 donation to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Totem Poles are an example of how we really are ‘moving ahead, by giving back.’

Located just outside the hospital grounds, these four 15-foot totems connect culture and care for patients and guests. They provide a welcoming spirit which will help heal those in care.

The Peninsula Co-op Totem was carved by Charles Elliott of the Tsartlip First Nation located on the Saanich Peninsula. The four large cedars were donated by Western Forest Products.

July 2015

July was another very busy month for Peninsula Co-op in our community!

As well, we were the presenting sponsor for the annual Tournament of Hearts at Uplands Golf Course.

Donations are still coming in, but the tournament should raise around $135,000 for the cardiac care unit at the Jubilee Hospital. The funds are going to purchase external pacemakers which will help improve quality of care, treatment and patient recovery.

Peninsula Co-op is very proud to be the first corporate naming partner that donated to UVIC’s Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities (CARSA), the new 190,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility.

On May 1st the Peninsula Co-op 16-meter (55 foot) Climbing Wall was revealed at University of Victoria’s donor recognition event and open house weekend. We are thrilled that one of our employees, Tristen, was first up the wall.
