Paul Hames, President
(Term expires 2019)

Paul’s career in policing spans almost 4 decades of diverse work in many communities across Canada. He started out as a young Mountie stationed in the Rockies and for the next 25 years experienced the challenges and rewards of serving a range of communities, with different cultures, needs and expectations. Paul progressed through the ranks and was commissioned in 1997, followed by a transfer to Ottawa where he was responsible for the design, development and implementation of the National Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.

In 1999 Paul retired from the RCMP and moved to beautiful Vancouver Island taking on his current role as Chief Constable for the Central Saanich Police Service. As a strong believer in collaboration, he contributes to regional, provincial and national policing initiatives. Paul also has extensive training in negotiation and mediation. He supports global knowledge transfer efforts and was a policing ambassador for People to People in conflict-torn South Africa as well as providing international police leadership training in Australia.

Paul has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training. His Masters’ thesis, “Building Bridges, Future Policing on the Saanich Peninsula”, studied policing options, a topic that continues to hold his interest.

Paul has numerous years of Board experience including RCMP, Provincial, private and not-for-profit Boards. For the last several years Paul has served as a Director for the Peninsula Co-op and the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation. Paul is in his second term as President of the Peninsula Co-op Board of Directors.


Gordon Griffiths, Vice-President
(Term expires 2019)

Gord Griffiths has lived in the Greater Victoria area since 1989 and been involved with Co-operatives/Credit Unions for a good deal of that time. He’s been a Director of Peninsula Co-op since 2000 and served on Membership, Planning, and Executive Committees, also taking on the role of Finance Committee Chair, Nominations Committee Chair and Vice-President of the Board.

Currently Executive Director of Finance and Administration for a multi-location provincial crown corporation, he is accountable for finance, accounting, facilities and fleet, records management and a research facility. The twelve years previous to that were spent in the financial services sector for a Credit Union (which is itself a Co-op) reporting to a Board of Directors, 7 years as CEO/General Manager. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA), and Audit Committee Certified by The Directors’ College, in addition to having a business degree. Having dealt extensively with many businesses as a CA and in his banking career, his familiarity with finance and governance is supported by knowledge and experience in human resources and general business operations, as well as a learned insight to governance and operations of cooperative organizations.

He and his family are actively involved in various sporting and outdoor activities on and around the Saanich Peninsula.


Ron Gaudet, Secretary
(Term expires 2018)

Ron has lived in the Central Saanich Community for over 20 years and has been a loyal supporter of Peninsula Co-op since 1982. He recently retired as the Chief Constable of the Oak Bay Police Department having worked in law enforcement for 39 years.

Ron was first elected to the Peninsula Co-op Board in 1996 and has been re-elected on 6 occasions. During his tenure as a Director he has participated as a member of the Finance, Planning, Member Relations, Nominations and Executive Committees, is also a member of the newly formed Governance Committee. Ron has served as Chairperson of the Member Relations Committee for 3 years and as the Board President from 1999 to 2012. At the 2001 Federated Co-operative Ltd Annual General Meeting in Saskatoon, he was honored to have been chosen to co-chair that meeting. He continues to take advantage of the extensive training provided by FCL, having completed his Level 1 Certificate in Feb 2002 and Level 2 Certificate in Feb 2005.

Since 2005, Ron has been closely involved with the Cops for Cancer, Tour de Rock, a Vancouver Island based fund raising organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research. He has chaired the Steering Committee since 2008 and continues to serve in that capacity.


Pat Fafard, Chair
Planning Committee
(Term expires 2018)

In 1981 Pat moved to the Peninsula and assumed the position of General Manager of Peninsula Co-op. Under his leadership, the Co-op grew from a small, struggling store to a membership database of over 56,000 members and an employee team of 350. His involvement with the wholesale and retail co-operative food and petroleum business spanned over 46 years. In 2012, after 32 years of dedicated service, he retired from his position of CEO. He was elected to the Board in 2013.

Pat has proudly been involved in the following organizations: Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce as a Director, Treasurer, Vice-President and President; Co-op Managers Association President and Board member; BC representative for the Co-op Retail Executive Management Committee; the Victoria Executive Management Club; Save-On Gas as President; and currently at Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre on the Board.

Pat and his family live on the Saanich Peninsula and own a small hobby farm, raising horses.


Mike Fecteau, Director
(Term expires 2018)

Mike is from the East and graduated from Loyola College (now Concordia) with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1971. He articled with Clarkson, Gordon & Co (now Ernst & Whinney) and obtained his CA designation in 1975. Mike moved to Victoria in 1988 and joined Honda City. He has lived in Sidney since 2003. In 1996 he joined Peninsula Co-op as Controller. In 1999 he left the Co-op when another opportunity presented itself, but later that same year was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Board. Since then Mike has won successive elections to the Board. He is currently employed by Capital City Paving Ltd as its Controller.

Mike has served on all of the Board committees and chaired the Finance committee for several years. He is currently Chair of the Planning committee. The combination of Mike’s time as Controller at the Co-op and his extensive financial background provide the Board with a unique take on the Co-op’s operations. He has completed Federated Co-op’s Level II Director’s Certificate, including their intensive course on Corporate Governance. Mike has also augmented his understanding of Co-operatives and their philosophy by attending several Federated Co-operatives Ltd Annual General Meetings and Fall Conferences.


Grant Hilliard, Chair
Nominations Committee
(Term expires 2020)

Grant’s background is in banking and has been in the industry for 42 years. He has held a number of senior positions including CEO in the credit union system and is specialized in sales management; mergers and acquisitions as well as new business start-ups. The last 10 years Grant has managed his own consulting company with the primary focus being operational turnarounds for financial institutions in difficulty.

He and his family live on the Peninsula, they have 5 children and 8 grandchildren.

Grant was elected to the Board in June 2014.


Patti Hunter, Chair
Member & Community Relations Committee
(Term expires 2020)

Patti Hunter was first elected to the Peninsula Co-op Board of Directors in 2002 and has participated as a committee member on Finance, Planning/Development and the Executive Committees. Since 2011, she has chaired the Member Relations Committee to support the Peninsula Co-op motto of “Moving Ahead, by Giving Back.

She has achieved both Level 1 and Level 2 Governance Certificates through Federated Cooperatives Ltd. In 2010, she was the Co-Chair of the Federated Cooperatives Ltd Annual General Meeting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan with over 450 delegates present during the 2 day meeting.

She owns a company which provides Strategic Planning, Board Governance training and Human Resource consulting to the private, public and not for profit sectors. Among her professional development certifications, she holds honors certificates in Human Resource Management and Management Systems from the BC Institute of Technology-Vancouver. She is also the General Manager of a not for profit organization in the Capital Regional District.

Active in the governance process since 1982, she has served as Board Chair, BC Women’s Hospital Health Research Initiative, Board member of Community Social Planning Council Victoria, Women of Distinction Council Chair, YM-YWCA of Greater Victoria , President of the Board, BC Recreation & Parks Association, Board Chair, BC Centre of Excellence for Women’s Health and Board of Directors Member, Sport BC.


Cathy McIntyre, Chair
Governance Committee
(Term expires 2020)

Cathy McIntyre joined the Board in 2011. She chairs the Governance Committee and sits on the Member & Community Relations Committee. She chaired the Nominations Committee in 2013.

Cathy is Principal of Strategic Initiatives Inc., a market research firm serving leading businesses and not-for-profit organizations in Western Canada. A senior executive with over 25 years of business experience and 15 years of board experience, Cathy began her career as a marketing and communications professional. Her background includes marketing management, sales management, advertising and communications, as well as market research.

In addition to Peninsula Co-op's board, Cathy currently serves on the boards of The Arthritis Society of Canada and the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, as well as sitting on Senate at the University of Victoria. She is a former director of the Certified Management Accountants Society of BC, United Way of Canada, and United Way of Greater Victoria, among others.

Cathy earned the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation in 2012. She holds a B.A. from Queen’s University, a M.B.A. from the University of Victoria and the Certified Marketing Research Professional (C.M.R.P.) designation. She was honoured with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012, was named one of UVic’s “Alumni Who Made a Difference” in 2013, and was a Women of Distinction award nominee in 2004 in the category of Community Legacy.

Cathy and her husband Murray have lived on the Peninsula for more than a decade. They are avid golfers, enjoy travelling and take great delight in their 10 wonderful grandchildren.


Dave Page, Director
(Term expires 2019)

Dave has lived in the Comox Valley for 48 years and has been a Comox Co-op member since the early 70’s.

In 1968, after attending UVic, Dave and family moved to Comox where he began his career as a teacher. As Chair of the district bargaining committee, Dave dealt with some very difficult issues during negotiations in the 1980’s. Dave continued teaching until the late 1980’s.

After twenty years in the school system Dave left teaching and purchased a small sawmill and in 1999 he built a new shop. Eagle Planing specializes in custom siding, panelling, flooring and mouldings.

During this time, Dave worked on his farm and developed his herd of cattle. Dave has been involved in agriculture in the Valley and has served for several years on the Regional District Agricultural Advisory Committee both as member and chair.

Dave became a Comox Co-op director in 2000 and took over as president the following year. The next ten years was a time of expansion for Comox Co-op accompanied by many challenges. Dave has worked tirelessly as a dedicated Board member, helping to meet these challenges. He is proud to have played a part in the success of his Co-op. As a director, he has taken numerous training courses and been a delegate to the FCL AGM. Dave has a number of years’ experience on the Resolutions Committee.

Dave continues to operate his business part-time. His hobbies are farming and antique vehicle restoration. Dave and Linda have two sons and four grandchildren.

Greg Yeomans, Director
(Term expires 2019)

Greg was born in 1960 in Drumheller, Alberta and his family moved to Campbell River in 1968 and then in 1970 moved to Black Creek where Greg spent his early years working in the family shake and shingle business. Greg’s father peaked his interest in competitive rifle shooting which resulted in Greg competing in Provincial & National Championships, Olympic tryouts and was on the 1977 Canada Summer Games BC Team. After graduation he worked 2 years on the oilrigs in Northern BC and Alberta. During the next two years he was an electrician and when the 1982 recession hit, he spent two years at BCIT graduating with honors from Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Greg is married, has two children and currently runs a successful logging business. He has worked in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Venezuela. Greg and his family have travelled most of the Western US and Europe, been to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Fiji, New Zealand, and lived a year in Australia and recently spent 3.5 months backpacking SE Asia. Currently we are planning a 3 month backpacking trip to western South America.

Greg has been the President of the Campbell River Gun Club for the past 6 years.

He was elected to the Comox Co-op board in 2003 and has completed all the primary courses offered by FCL but did not feel the need to get recognized for it.
